James ‘Alf’ Wight, better known as James Herriot, will always be inextricably linked to the town of Thirsk and the rural setting of North Yorkshire. The All Creatures Great and Small writer detailed his experiences over 40 years ago but his legacy lives on, giving life to a subsequent BBC TV series and more recently, the inspiration behind Channel 5 show – The Yorkshire Vet.
His old practice now documents his life’s work, beautifully restored to its 1940’s heritage whilst providing fun all year round, no matter the weather. So if you’re a fan of the James Herriot books, be sure to check out The World of James Herriot centre upon your next visit to Hillside Caravan Park. It's the perfect addition to one of our Camping pods or touring stays. You can find ticket information here.
“There's loads to see and do behind that famous red door. Well worth a visit to experience his work place, home and where his writing emerged.”
